Annual Golf Tournament

Sewer Open Golf Tournament has been held every year since 1988.  Originally hosted at a course in Glastonbury, CT and moved to Skungamaug River Club Golf in Coventry, CT  since about 1995.   The tournament is always held the third Friday in June with the exception of 2020, where it was moved due to COVID.  For 2022 the Sewer Open will be held on Friday June 17th.

The tournament consists of two foursomes on every hole for a total of 144 players for a day of networking, golf, and a picnic.

There are a few interesting holes. The Closest to the Case prize is on hole no. 16 and the Hole-in-One is located at hole no. 8, which offered a $10,000 prize to any golfer that manages to make hole-in-one. Around 8 years ago, the CWPAA did have a winner and was able to deliver a check for $10,000 to the individual. The hole in one hole always needs our diligent hole-in-one volunteer judges. We are always very appreciative of the time the volunteers give to support our event and we are always looking for volunteers.

Additionally in 2021, Suez's Mike Spring graciously volunteered to take photographs and did a fantastic job. We appreciate him taking the time to attend our event and sharing photos.

SPECIAL THANKS TO ALL THE 2022 SPONSORS AND PARTICIPANTS

The picnic is a great wind up to a traditionally great day. During the post golf picnic, scholarship awards are announced and door prizes are raffled off due to generous donations from sponsors and attendees.

This tournament is a key fundraising event for programs that the CTWEA participates in annually. The Tee Sponsorships are used to fund the Scholarship Fund, which offers scholarships to students who will be pursuing a college degree in an environmental related field.  We are happy to announce we raised $3,800 for the CTWEA Scholarship Fund in 2021 through tee sponsors that will be going to four students attending college the fall.  This year’s Green Sponsorships were improved to increase support for Connecticut’s Operation Challenge Team, and we were able to set a record, raising $3,200 for the Operators Challenge Team.   Additionally, each year during the picnic raffle tickets are sold to Win the Driver raffle. This  raised an additional $1,540 for the Operations Challenge Team.

The tournament director Ray Bahr at Green Mountain Pipeline Services is entering his 18th year running the tournament. He can be reached at ray@greenmountainpipe.com for additional information.
